A geofence is a virtual perimeter for a real-world geographic area. A geofence is dynamically generated for the purpose of location-based marketing. Picture a radius around a point location on a map. A geofence can also be a predefined set of boundaries around a building or region. Advertisers use mobile phone GPS location data to engage their audience by sending relevant messages to smartphone users who enter that predefined location or geographic area.
Why is a Geofence Important?
Geofencing is the basis for a mobile marketing optimization strategy of geo-targeted advertising. When customers opt-in to receiving notifications from apps on their mobile phone, they can receive product offers. Additionally they may receive specific promotions from a nearby store, while inside a store, from nearby restaurants, etc. For brick-and-mortar retail businesses, geo-targeted advertising is a great new way to acquire new customers. Messages become tailored to individual customers depending on location and interests. It may remind customers co come back to that store.
How Do We Use Geofencing to Benefit You?
At Design the Planet, we are in the market of getting your brand in front of the right people. A perfectly designed billboard in the right high traffic location used to be a great marketing tool (and still can be.) But, a perfectly designed billboard sent directly to someone’s smart device with a clickable offer is the billboard of the future when it comes to location based marketing. We use geofencing to help you connect and advertise to the right audience.
