As someone who loves to hear herself talk, I’m a big fan of blogging, but I think it’s safe to say that my blog-happy attitude is not the norm. Although my fellow Design the Planet team members love to share their brand marketing/web/design knowledge with the world, the writing part doesn’t come quite so easily to everyone in the office. When our designers and programmers are strapped with tight deadlines and a heavy project load, the groans are audible when I remind them that they had a blog post due last week. We’ve all been in a place where writing can feel inconvenient, time-consuming, and even unnecessary, but blogging is just as vital and powerful a part of your business as that project you’d rather focus on. Here’s why:
It positions you as the EXPERT in your field. Anyone can pay a great design firm to build them a website that makes them look smart, sophisticated, and like they know what in the heck they’re doing (if you’re in need of this type of brand marketing and design firm, you know who to call). However, in the presumed event that you actually DO know what in the heck you’re doing, how can you truly differentiate yourself from the pack? By blogging, of course! Blogging regularly allows you to showcase your different areas of knowledge and expertise, painting a full picture of a company that can back up that pretty website with the experience and know-how needed to deliver exceptional service to their clients. Prospective clients will look to you as a resource, and that type of trust and respect leads to long-term business partners.
By helping people answer common questions and make better decisions within your industry, you’re building a relationship with them that hard-sell tactics can’t and positioning yourself as a thought leader within your field. Through creating timely and relevant content that is educational and beneficial to your target audience, you are giving your prospective customers a gift that will keep on giving back to you and your business for years to come.
