The school fosters development of its students with an emphasis on character, scholarship, and the soul through strong academic, athletic, and extracurricular programs.

The new website replaces the past website developed in the 1990s and can be updated by numerous members of the faculty and staff instead of just a few individuals with HTML knowledge. It is built on a WordPress CMS (Content Management System) with different levels on control and access to different sections of the website (for example, the football coach can update the football page and not the band page). The homepage also has a place for alerts for weather, school closed, and the such.

The Brother Martin website is nearly 100% editable by the school including the navigation, news, downloads, & quick links sections. The website was refocuses to make it easier to find information and has areas for the four main users – students, parents, alumni, and future students.

One of the New Orleans area’s finest seafood restaurants is Drago’s. They are especially known for their oysters.

On a drive down Metairie Road, you will see the fun-loving Drago’s crawfish mascot on their sign [pictured on the right]. This logo is the New Orleans version of Americana for me, it’s New Orleanian. The logo has some fun and some class. The font is distinct even though it appears to be an unaltered fontface. and I like how the “S” is extended, underlining the rest of the word. You may notice the far left side of the “S” is curved to mimic the curve of the “D”. Even the ampersand in the logo has character. (No pun intended.)

What do you think about the Drago’s logo? Do you have a favorite New Orleans restaurant logo?

As the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina approaches, we have been talking about all of the pro-New Orleans imagery that has flooded New Orleans’ stores and homes. New Orleans has had the fleur-de-leis for centuries as part of its early French roots. Another image also represents New Orleans and it’s the water meter cover. Since Katrina, stores have been flooded with products such as home decorations, clothing, jewelry, and even cookware are filled with these two images. Like the ownership of “Who Dat” with Saints fans, the ownership of the water meter cover has come into question.

This is not a logo per say, but it is an icon. An icon that has stood the test of time and clearly defines New Orleans as the Crescent City. It shows the city has a city with culture and one that looks to the arts for even simple things like water meter covers. Other cities usually just have the name of the city on the water meter covers and other utilities, but here in New Orleans it is more than that. It is a piece of art that we walk across each day. Nowadays, you do not see as many of the water meter covers because they become so coveted that many of the covers were stolen as souvenirs.

Have you purchased items with the water meter cover design? One of my favorites is the welcome mat.

Believe it or not, the New Orleans Saints are in the Super Bowl. Oddly enough, they’re facing New Orleanians QB Peyton Manning & WR Reggie Wayne. Many believed the Saints would never make it to the big game. In fact, WWL’s sports legend, Jim Henderson, called the game winning field goal as, “Pigs have flown. Hell has frozen over. The Saints are on their way to the Super Bowl.”

I know we promised not to spotlight our clients in the New Orleans Logos section of our website, but this is not a design client for us. We actually just recoded & cleaned up Premium Parking’s website and helped them with some web marketing so we think the logo still counts.

Premium Parking’s logo reminds me of the London Underground logo and has a European feel to it which matches New Orleans’ European history and influence. The logo is clean, simple and to the point. We talk all the time that less is more and this is a good example of it and well needed.

When a potential customer is looking for parking, especially in the busy Central Business District (CBD) or New Orleans where much of the company’s lots are located, they need an easy to find, well recognized visual that quickly translates into available parking. The red color helps the logo stand out and draw attention toward the sign.

Oddly though, the logo reminds me of a No Parking sign, but in a good way. The Premium Parking “P” is recognizable as “parking” and without the slash through the letter, it looks like parking is available.

Check out the Premium Parking website at http://www.premiumparkingservice.com.

I have no idea.

After a successful branding of a waste management company that is as synonymous with black as UPS is with brown, the SDT Waste truck is now white. I am amazed, stunned, and baffled by this change. Living in the New Orleans post-Katrina has had it’s ups and downs, but won of the biggest changes for the better was the new clean French Quarter. Along with the clean French Quarter came a clean Bourbon Street, clean Mardi Gras, and clean French Quarter Fest. Amazing for any party goer to see, a clean & good smelling Bourbon Street.

The company’s namesake and spokesmen, Sidney Torres, has a rockstar-like image with New Orleanians and has branded the company with the bull head and black everything. From the company’s trucks and dumpsters to their website and television commercials, black is the main constant throughout. You can even order apparel and koozies from their website, all in black of course. So why would such a power element of a well-liked, local brand change so drastically? I’m not really sure. I assumed they chose black initially to differentiate from their competitors trucks and because it is easy to clean and even matches everything.

What do you think lead SDT Waste to change their colors?

As I’m sure this will be the subject of many New Orleanian bloggers today, it is in fact, snowing in New Orleans!

But, this will not be a post about the snow in New Orleans; rather a craving I had for coffee while watching the snow fall. When my roommate woke me about the little white fluffies falling from the sky, I first rolled over in my bed in disbelief, but then upon seeing the white scene… wanted some Starbucks coffee… right then. I imagined myself getting all bundled up (scarf and all) and driving to Starbucks on the way to work, waiting in line with all the other pretend coffee consumers, and ordering a Grande Mocha. Maybe their brand has gone to my head, but what a great way to structure a company!

In the end, I did refrain from the Starbucks. Instead, I saved 5 bucks, went to work and pulled a fantastic shot of espresso from River Road Coffees which hit the spot just as well!
