Yesterday 42 students from the University of Florida visited Design the Planet as part of their tour New Orleans design firms. Over about an hour and a half, the Design the Planet team toured them through the office and showed the students some of our work, did some Q&A, and then lead them through a group brainstorming activity.
We enjoyed having Florida visit us and look forward to hearing about their visit to New Orleans.

Jon A. Gegenheimer, the long-time Clerk of Court of Jefferson Parish, continues being on the cutting-edge of technology. His clerk’s office is known for being one of the first in the country to implement different forms of technology into the office to better serve constituents and to make the office more efficient.
Recently, Design the Planet teamed with Touch Studios to redevelop the clerk’s website which included apps for mobile devices including iPhone, Droid, and Blackberry and a mobile website. Users can access key information from the clerk’s office including real-time election results straight from their smart phone.

Brother Martin High School is one of the leading all-boy Catholic schools in New Orleans. The school fosters development of its students with an emphasis on character, scholarship, and the soul through strong academic, athletic, and extracurricular programs.
The new website replaces the past website developed in the 1990s and can be updated by numerous members of the faculty and staff instead of just a few individuals with HTML knowledge. It is built on a WordPress CMS (Content Management System) with different levels on control and access to different sections of the website (for example, the football coach can update the football page and not the band page). The homepage also has a place for alerts for weather, school closed, and the such.
The Brother Martin website is nearly 100% editable by the school including the navigation, news, downloads, & quick links sections. The website was refocuses to make it easier to find information and has areas for the four main users – students, parents, alumni, and future students.

Nacho Mama’s Mexican Grill is a fun-loving restaurant that offers Mexican cuisine at three locations. A Mexican restaurant in the predominately Catholic city of New Orleans can take quite a hit during Lent when people don’t eat meat on Fridays. We developed a fun campaign promoting Nacho Mama’s seafood items as well as their meat items with a “Saintly or Sinful” campaign. To the right, you will see table tents promoting the menu items. The campaign also included print & web banner ads with local social publications.

Dots Diner is a well established New Orleans icon and is widely known for their “Not You Mama…” radio commercials (which you can play on the website). We developed the website to look as if Dot made it herself. The website showcases part of Dots’ mantra – Big Taste, Big Portions, and Big Value. Dot encourages visitors to sign up for email announcements, check daily specials and “connect” with Dot via social media. All of the social media and email marketing is written in Dot’s voice and signed at the end by Dot. Dot even reminds you to call your mother because she misses you.

Touch Studios
is the mobile device and social media app sister company to Susco Solutions. Touch Studios website was developed in two phases to expedite the development process. The design shown on the right was a single holding page developed in less than 48 hours to coincide with the release of a prominent app. The temporary website listed the companies recent apps, featured noteworthy projects and made getting in touch with the company easy.
The main website incorporates the same list of recent apps while bringing in Touch Studios’ Twitter feed and incorporating a new blog as well as more information on the company.

The State Board of CPAs of Louisiana is the state’s governing body for Certified Public Accounts. The board administers the CPA exam, renewals licenses and handles complaints against CPAs.
The new website features a wealth of information about becoming a CPA and houses the notes from their board meetings. The design is a major improvement from the old website design that was Mardi Gras themed and dated as well as hard to update. The board now has the ability to update their entire website via a WordPress CMS.
